Becoming a Woman:
a workshop for mothers and daughters.
"At menarche, we welcome our daughters into womanhood, celebrating and honouring them, ready, willing and able to be the support they need as they transition into womanhood. We teach them what we have learned and we guide them with women's wisdom."
- Jane Hardwicke Collings.
Celebrate and demystify the menstrual cycle together and discover the magic and power of being a woman
This workshop is a soulful gathering for girls, pre-menarche (onset of menstruation) or "just started”, with their mothers, to demystify the menstrual cycle and to learn about the physical and spiritual opportunities offered each month by this miraculous process.
Together we will honour the feminine experience of the menstrual cycle, celebrating becoming and being a woman and heal the “wounded feminine” of our times.
The young girls will get the opportunity to share a special connection with their mothers and other women, in a safe and loving space. All women gain a deeper understanding of the spiritual aspects of the menstrual cycle and learn practical tools to work with its energy in their everyday life.
What to Expect
Girls often receive mixed messages about what it is to be a woman in this culture. Through this workshop, girls are educated about their bodies, inspired by their connection with the earth and her cycles, empowered through story and shared wisdoms and deeply supported by the woman within the circle. In these simple and profound ways they come to know themselves as powerful and important. They develop respect for their bodies and their intuition and they open an ongoing conversation with their own mothers which will support them throughout their lives.
The workshops are designed to be fun, engaging and supportive and we together move through a series of processes and rituals to demystify our menstrual cycle and facilitate open communication between mothers and daughters.
Who is this workshop for:
Girls age 10-14 and their mothers.
Day 1:
Saturday 3rd August
2pm-5pm
This day is for the Mothers (or mother-figures) only. We gather together to hear each other and to set our intention with these sessions. We hold space for you as you share your own menarche story and guide you in having conversations with your daughters. During this session we prepare you for part 2 with your daughters.
Day 2:
Sunday 4th August
9.30am - 2.30pm
During this workshop, mothers and daughters come together, and together we learn (and re-learn) about what it is to become a woman, how we can harness the power of our cycles and welcome each other into womanhood. This session is conducted in a circle format and is interactive, supportive and nourishing, and together we weave an interactive experience as we explore and explain the rhythm of the cycles. The basics of the cycle are explained, and linked to the earth and moon cycles. We will include a Shamanic drum journey and build connection and trust and support a deepening bond between mother and daughter.
